Design intent

The chore jacket is one of the few garments in history that solved every problem it was asked to solve. Loose enough to layer, short enough to work in, pocketed enough to carry a day's tools - there was nothing to fix. What our Atelier version asks instead is a quieter question: What if we add a "convenient dressing" feature on top of this? The magnetic closure series starts from that premise. The jacket earns its place not by adding features, but by subtracting friction from one that already exists.

Design inspiration

The reference is the bleu de travail - the cotton work jackets worn by French artisans and railroad workers from the 1870s onwards. Those originals were indigo-dyed not for aesthetics but for practicality: indigo hid dirt, resisted fading, and aged with dignity. The box cut was functional too - wide enough across the back for a full range of motion, cropped at the hip so it wouldn't snag in machinery. That utility logic is still here. The blue chosen for this jacket sits between the original workers' indigo and something more considered - a slate blue that reads differently in morning light than it does at dusk.

Craft details

The front closure features a discreet magnetic design, with the magnets seamlessly embedded so that only the buttons sewn onto the placket are visible from the outside. The magnetic closure system has undergone extensive testing and fine-tuning to ensure precise alignment, allowing the placket to be fastened effortlessly and accurately, even when operating with one hand or in dimly lit environments. Cuffs close with a single button tab, and the spread collar sits flat without collar stays - a structural decision that relies on the fabric's body rather than hidden engineering.
