Care Instructions
Magnetic Closure Collection
The magnetic closures in your AbleCove garment are precision-engineered and built to last. A little care goes a long way toward keeping both the fabric and the hardware performing exactly as they should - wash after wash, year after year.
Before You Wash
Start here, every time:
- Fasten all magnetic closures. This protects the magnets and the fabric around them during the cycle.
- Turn the garment inside out.
- Place it in a mesh laundry bag.
Washing
Hand wash preferred. Use cool water - 86°F / 30°C or below - with a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Work gently. No wringing, no scrubbing.
Machine wash, if needed. Select the Delicate or Wool cycle. Keep the water temperature at or below 86°F / 30°C. Keep the laundry bag on.
What to Avoid
- Bleach, or any detergent with high alkalinity or acidity - these degrade the fabric and affect the finish over time.
- Tumble drying on high heat. High heat is hard on the fabric and harder on the closures. Don't do it.
Drying
Lay flat to dry in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight. This holds the shape and keeps the color where it belongs.
Ironing
If the garment needs pressing, work around the magnetic closure areas. If you need to get close to a closure, use the lowest heat setting and keep the iron moving. Prolonged direct heat on the magnets will affect their performance.
Magnetic Zipper Collection
The care principles are the same - the zip adds one step.
Before You Wash
Close the zip fully from base to top before it goes anywhere near water. A closed zip protects both the teeth and the magnetic elements at the base during the wash cycle. Then place the garment in a mesh laundry bag as usual.
Washing
Machine wash on a gentle cycle, 86°F / 30°C or below, with a mild pH-neutral detergent. One thing to avoid that's specific to the zip: don't leave the garment soaking in detergent for extended periods. A standard wash cycle is fine. Leaving it sitting in a strong solution isn't - it accelerates wear on the zip mechanism and the magnetic base over time.
What to Avoid
Bleach and high-alkalinity detergents - same rule as the rest of the garment, with the zip giving you an additional reason to stick to it. Tumble drying on heat. Don't do it.
Drying
Lay flat, away from direct sunlight. Keep the zip closed while it dries.
Ironing
Avoid pressing directly over the zip base. The magnetic elements at the insertion point don't respond well to sustained heat. Work around them, or leave that area unpressed.
Vegan Leather Collection
Vegan leather rewards a slightly different approach - less about the wash cycle, more about keeping the surface in good condition between wears.
Day-to-Day Care
For most marks and surface dirt, a barely damp cloth is all you need. Wipe the affected area gently, let it air dry, and the material will look as it should. Deal with spills promptly - vegan leather doesn't absorb the way fabric does, but letting liquids sit on the surface for extended periods isn't worth the risk.
Washing
Spot clean wherever possible. If the garment needs a fuller clean, hand wash in cool water - 86°F / 30°C or below - with a small amount of mild, pH-neutral detergent. Work gently over the surface; don't scrub. Rinse thoroughly.
If the care label permits machine washing, use a mesh laundry bag, the most delicate cycle available, and the coolest water setting. Keep it away from anything heavy or abrasive in the drum.
What to Avoid
Heat is the primary thing. Tumble drying will crack and warp vegan leather - don't do it, even on a low setting. The same applies to direct sunlight over extended periods. Avoid solvents, alcohol-based cleaners, and anything containing acetone. No wringing.
Drying
Hang or lay flat at room temperature, away from radiators and direct sunlight. Let it dry fully before storing.
Ironing
Don't iron vegan leather directly. If the garment has fabric panels that need pressing, work around the leather sections entirely.
Storage
Store hanging where possible. Long-term folding or compression along the same crease line can eventually mark the surface in a way that doesn't fully recover.
