Design intent

Navy and cream is the stripe combination with the longest continuous cultural life - worn by French naval officers from the 1850s, adopted by Coco Chanel for resort wear in the 1910s, and worn by everyone in between ever since. The Sailor Stripe Tee returns to this classic palette because it remains the clearest expression of a wide-stripe cotton tee. The AbleCove magnetic closure adds the one thing the original never had: a neckline that closes on contact without needing to find a button.

Design inspiration

The marinière - the French naval undershirt standardised in 1858 - specified 21 white stripes of equal width to the navy stripes, each narrow enough to count. The Sailor Stripe Tee takes the visual logic of that garment and scales the stripe width up to the bold register used by later sporting and workwear interpretations. The neckline placket, like the original marinière's, opens just enough to pull the garment on and off without a full button-front - the magnetic system simply makes that operation instantaneous.

Craft details

The shell is 100% combed cotton jersey, yarn-dyed in navy and undyed cream before knitting - the stripe is structural to the knit, not printed on a base cloth. Boxy cut with dropped shoulder, extra chest ease, straight hip-length hem. Magnetic closure: three magnets in reinforced double-layer interlining at the three-button henley neckline placket. All units heat-welded pre-assembly, rated through 200+ machine-wash cycles.
